A Cape Flats pastor is on a mission to change the lives of school children after already providing clothing, shoes and stationery to over 140 kids.
Two weeks ago, Pastor Oscar Bougardt of Calvary Hope Ministries in Delft received a desperate visit from the grandmother of a 10-year-old girl who needed school shoes.
Since then, Bougardt says he has helped 140 children across the Flats by starting the project and hopes to assist more families.
“What we find is that many children are being teased about their lack of attire and do not want to attend school,” he explains.
“I started this shoe project after a grandmother visited my offices begging for school shoes for her granddaughter. After that, I began a school shoe drive and gave away brand-new shoes to more than 140 children in Delft, Elsies River and Belhar.

“We have also seen that there is a need for stationery and have blessed children with that after donations were received. Since then we have been inundated with the call for clothing and shoes and stationery and the need is growing.”
He has now called on the mense of Cape Town to open their hearts and wallets to help more kids: “We help where we can and we also run a feeding scheme for over 100 children.
“We do want to help more families as we find children do not want to attend school and are often teased.”
