An 11-year-old boy from Kraaifontein has been labelled a “sex predator” at his primary school following alleged “continued inappropriate” behaviour.
The child’s ouma says he started attending the school two years ago and has been accused and punished for all types of sexual misconduct.
The 60-year-old granny says instead of helping her grandson, education authorities are allowing him to be victimised.
The distraught grandmother admits the boy “is no saint”, but says he is a child in desperate need of help, which he is not receiving.
She says her 13-year-old granddaughter was sexually assaulted by four boys at the same school, but the alleged perpetrators were not expelled and her traumatised granddaughter has to face them every day.
She says she is worried about her grandson, who started exhibiting “strange” behaviour when he was four years old.
“He used to make ougat movements with his hips. I asked him why and explained it was not right to do that,” the ouma explains.
“He told me his penis gets itchy and he touches it to get satisfaction. He was in Grade 3 and 4 when there were incidents at the school. He pulled down a girl’s shorts and looked up a teacher’s dress when she bent over.
“The social worker at the school was called in. He has an entire file of incidents where he does sexual things and gets punished, but he is not being helped. I am old and I am so tired of him being victimised. They must help my child!”
The grandmother also wants the school to take action against the boys who allegedly attacked her granddaughter.
“They touched her all over her body and made remarks about taking a skommel later, but they are not labelled predators. The school needs to help me,” she says emotionally.
The Daily Voice contacted the Western Cape Education Department and according to spokesperson Millicent Merton, both matters are being dealt with.
“I can confirm ongoing engagement between the school, our district-based support team and the family to gain a deeper understanding of the learners’ needs and the support required,” Merton said.
