The wife of controversial businessman Nafiz Modack was arrested at their home on Thursday.
Riana Modack and her sister were charged with fraud and corruption and were being held at the Cape Town Central Police Station.
Their lawyer, Advocate Bruce Hendricks, confirmed the arrest but did not want to discuss the charges, only saying: “The sister I managed to get out. I have no further comment.”
It is understood Riana will be appearing in a Johannesburg court on Monday.
A furious Nafiz on Thursday claimed a cop called him to warn him about the raid.
“I received a phone call from Colonel Charl Kinnear’s colleagues to say they’re going to raid my home in 30 minutes,” Modack tells the Daily Voice.
“When they raided my home, I was not there. The employees were moered and threatened.
“My wife was arrested for the possession of her gun, but that is her licensed firearm.
“She received it back from Kinnear a month ago after it was taken when they arrested me in December 2017. We got a court order from Pretoria which forced him to give it back.”
WARNING: Charl Kinnear
Modack also filed charges claiming Kinnear and Anti-Gang Unit Captain Sharon Japhta stole from him.
“Our domestic worker says Japtha and Kinnear were in my bedroom and they were making videos. They then asked her to leave the room.
“When I got home, a silver Rolex watch worth R300 000 and R18 000 in cash were missing.”
Kinnear is the investigating officer in a case against Modack at the Cape Town Regional Court.
Modack, Colin Booysen, Ashley Fields, and Jacques Cronjé are on trial for money laundering and extortion, linked to a violent takeover of the local nightclub security industry.
