A suspected drug mert from Heideveld is finally in the mang after being arrested NINE times in less than six months for smokkeling tik.
Quinton Abrahams, 45, appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where his bail application was denied and he was sent to Pollsmoor Prison while he stands trial for nine cases of drug dealing.
Acting Manenberg station commander, Colonel Sanele Zama, says the man is known for dealing from a council flat he shares with his side-chick, but his luck ran out when top detective, Sergeant Darryl van Noie, took over the case.
TAKE OVER: Sergeant, Darryl van Noie
He says Abrahams, who merts mostly with tik, was caught on 16 October when the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) assisted by the army swooped on his home in Mariana Court.
“The 45-year-old suspect was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs four times in April, but each time the courts granted him bail,” says Zama.
“In July he was arrested again and he was found with three bags of tik that each weighed 20.44g, and a fourth packet weighing 10.5g and was again sent to court.
“Due to the high value of that tik, he was granted R20 000 bail and warned not to be caught with drugs again as it would affect his case.”
BAIL DENIED: At the Athlone Magistrates’ Court this week.
Zama says in September, officers arrested the mert THRICE but each time he made bail.
“On 16 October, the CPU team was assisted by the army, who came in with helicopters and proceeded to his home.
“The front door was open, but the gate was locked. He ran with the drugs in his hand to the back of the flat but officers were waiting for him there.
LOCKDOWN: Team assisted by army to bust mert at his home.
“He got a surprise and ran into a room and by that time, they managed to break open the gate and saw him throwing something under the bed.
“He was lying on the bed, flat on his stomach, and they found tik under the bed and two Mandrax tablets hidden near his stomach.”
Zama says Abrahams told the court he was married and had five children and sold fruit and vegetables to support his family.
His bail application was denied and he was sent to Pollsmoor.
