The Western Cape Missing Persons Unit has been assigned to help find the alleged murderer, Levona Jacobs after she failed to show up at court.
This after a worried relative reported Jacobs missing at a police station this week.
Jacobs, 38, is on trial for the murder of her aunt and cousin in Delft and is also accused of burying them in their own backyard.
Last Monday Jacobs, who is out on bail, failed to appear at what was to be closing arguments at the Western Cape High Court and Judge Mushtak Parker was to deliver his verdict.
Jacobs never showed up and her lawyer, Advocate Johannes Solomons, informed the court he was unable to reach his client.
He told Judge Parker he had no objection to the decision that her bail be revoked and a warrant be issued for her arrest.
Led by CEO Candice Sobotker the WCMPU team has since descended on areas such as Delft, Elsies River and other unnamed suburbs following up on leads of Jacobs’ whereabouts.
According to Sobotker, a family member whose name is known to the Daily Voice went to open a missing person case.
“They went to Elsies River police where she is supposed to be living and opened the case.
“We have been given strong leads and are following up on the matter,” says Sobotker.
Sobotker confirms that during interviews with the family, they revealed Jacobs is on trial for murder.
“I am aware of the case running at the Western Cape High Court, but our work is quite simply finding missing people, regardless of the circumstances. This is what we do,” she says.
