For many moms, Mother’s Day is just another day of work.
And that is why this little beauty queen decided to do something special for them.
Sunday on Mother’s Day, four-year-old Laurika Smit surprised 60 women at her local Spar with gifts.
The little model was crowned the Miss Cape Rose Mini first princess at a beauty pageant held at Century City in February.
Her granny Joan Rich says on Saturday, her granddaughter approached her and said she wanted to surprise the moms “who leave their husband and children at home to go and work”.
“She told me ouma, we must buy gifts and we must give it to the mommies to thank them for their time serving us,” says a proud Joan.
“Myself and her mom Nicolette and her other granny, Anna Marie Lukas then clubbed together to buy the gifts.”
GOOD HEART: Laurika and ouma Joan
They then put together 60 gift bags and yesterday handed them out to surprised and grateful moms at their local Superspar in Kraaifontein.
The tiny redhead, dressed in a cute blue dress and sporting a matching face mask, her crown and sash, went around handing out gifts.
Joan says Laurika is enrolled at the Riana van Tonder model school (RVT) and is in Grade 1.
“She has always been taught to share with others. She helped us make up the gift bags for the mothers,” says the granny.
Mom of two Fatima Julies says it was heartbreaking going to work on Mother’s Day and especially during the Coronavirus lockdown, but little Laurika was the ray of sunshine she needed.
“It was so wonderful seeing this tiny little girl and her ouma handing out the gifts, and doing this for us,” she said.
Cashier Anneline Uithaler says: “Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine this little girl walking in here today to surprise us like this. When they called us to the back, this was the last thing we expected.”
HAPPY: With Mari Meyer
Mari Meyer, the manager at SuperSpar in Kraaifontein, thanked Laurika and her family for their generosity: “We were pleasantly surprised at what this little girl is doing for her community and everyone was happy to receive a gift.”
