An alleged skollie from Lavender Hill has died after being shot eight times in the face on Monday just a day after gangs allegedly agreed to a ceasefire in the area.
The 18-year-old man, an alleged member of the Mongrels gang, had died when two gunmen walked up to him and opened fire.
According to residents, the incident has sparked concern and fear as this is the first murder recorded since the death of Nathlia Pienaar, six, in August.
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, says the shooting happened at about 4.40pm in Mirbey Road.
“According to reports the members responded to a complaint at the mentioned address and found the victim, an 18-year-old man, shot and fatally wounded and he died on the scene.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation with no arrests made so far.”
Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson, Gavin Walbrugh, says:“It is unknown what triggered this murder because since the death of the six-year-old girl there have been no murders but there have been shootings.
“The CPF has not officially been informed of a ceasefire, but this information came from community members.
“We are worried about possible retaliation as it is unclear what led up to this incident.”
