A 23-year-old man on his way to look for work was gunned down in Athlone on Tuesday morning.
Police took three suspects in for questioning, allegedly gangsters, within minutes of the murder.
Witnesses say Wade Isaacs was standing with his father, Abraham, on a corner in Eland Street in Kewtown at about 7.30am when three men approached them and opened fire.
Wade, who had last worked in a call centre, was apparently on his way to find a new job when he was killed.
Wade was shot six times and died on the corner at Block 7. His father was not injured.
The shooting happened in full view of the public and panicked mense called the police who arrived on the scene within minutes.

After speaking to a few of the residents, a video shows officers frog-marching three men out of a flat as the community cursed the shooters to death.
“ Julle gaan vrek,” an angry woman was heard shouting.
Wade has been described as a kind young man who was part of a klopse troupe.
A community member and neighbour said the family was too traumatised by his death to speak to anyone.
The woman, who asked not to be named, said Wade’s murder has shocked everyone.
“He had dreams to be there for his family and shared an especially close bond with his siblings and friends,” the 70-year-old ouma said.
