A 12-year-old girl wanted to make life a little sweeter for children in Bloekombos in Kraaifontein during the Coronavirus lockdown and decided to bake them cookies.
Little Sophia Humphreys donned her apron and set about baking biscuits while the children were also surprised with colourful face masks, made by Sandiswa Gwele.
The masks and biscuits were handed out at the Bloekombos clinic on Friday afternoon.
SWEET: Little Sophia Humphreys
Mom Shelley Humphreys-Webb says she’s very proud of her daughter Sophia for realising that she’s in a position to help.
“She baked about 130 biscuits for the children of Bloekombos,” says Shelley.
“She baked two batches of peanut butter and Whispers cookies for the kids.
“Sophia will be baking cookies every week for the children to help lighten up their mood during lockdown,” she adds.

At the same time, members of the Sandiswa Gwele Ukhanyo Foundation and the Poul Due Jensen Foundation handed out sanitisers and facemasks.
Sandiswa says: “When I heard Shelley’s daughter would be handing out biscuits, I decided to also do something for these kids and myself and three family members sew the masks.
“Nomvu Mpengesi from Khayalistsa taught us how to make the masks and now we are paying it forward. The children got to pick out their favourite colours.”
Mom Pricilla Burns, 26, thanks Sandiswa and Sophia for their generosity: “My daughter Priney, 6, loved the cookies and the mask. Now the children can wear the masks, it makes us as parents feel a little better that they are somewhat protected from the virus.”
