A brave bakkie driver from Brackenfell is being praised after he chased down two robbers on Wednesday afternoon.
Just after 1pm, two skelms in a white VW Polo robbed a man in Wessel Geldenhuys Street in Brackenfell.
The robbery was witnessed by the bakkie driver who decided to take matters into his own hands.
The man, driving a 4x4 Toyota bakkie, chased after the suspects down Okavango Drive near the bridge.
The suspects tried ramming other motorists from the road, but the bakkie’s driver was not intimidated and stayed on their tail.
The dramatic high-speed chase ended when the suspects lost control of their vehicle and crashed into the road barrier.
The suspects then tried to flee on foot, but officers from private company Titanium Security who had joined in the chase apprehended them.
LAUDED: Brave hero bakkie driver.
It is understood the VW Polo had fake registration number plates and the car may have been stolen.
“The suspects robbed a man and the man driving the Toyota bakkie immediately took charge. He was chasing them and he kept his cool,” says a spokesperson for Titanium Security.
“With our men hot on their heels, the suspects crashed. One of the suspects, who had the cash in his possession, tried fleeing and ran in the direction of the bridge near the train station. The other was stopped trying to flee the vehicle.
“It has been confirmed the car plates were false and Brackenfell SAPS immediately arrested the two suspects.
“We laud the driver of the bakkie who put his life at risk to stop these robbers,” the security company said.
Police did not respond to queries.
