Neighbourhood watch patrollers in Sybrand Park got a skrik when they found the body of a taxi driver in his Toyota Quantum van.
The driver had a gunshot wound to the face and was found in the front seat of his van shortly after 3am in Golf Course Road.
Ward councillor Mark Kleinschmidt says CCTV footage shows the taxi being driven to the street and two men jumping out.
“He was found in the front seat lying on his back, but not in the driver’s seat,” says Kleinschmidt.
“The neighbours did not hear any gunshots so initially it was believed that the driver and his van were just dumped in Sybrand Park.

“Afterwards CCTV obtained showed that the taxi arrived in the area at 3.30am and two men are seen getting out and jumping into a silver car.
“It is not clear what make or model the vehicle is, but they get in that car and flee the scene.
“The dead driver was later discovered by the neighbourhood watch who called the police.
“The taxi had a sign board for Langa in the front and a Cata [Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association] sticker on the side.”
The incident comes a day after four taxi drivers were shot and killed in Hout Bay.
According to Transport MEC, Donald Grant, the violence there is thought to be related to ongoing disputes over routes between two associations affiliated with Cata and Codeta (Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association).
Cata spokesperson, Andile Seyamo, says they are not aware of the latest killing.
Police said no arrests have been made in either of the incidents.
