Fabian Cupido, 39, with a swollen and bruised face, appeared in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Monday where he was charged with attempted murder and being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
Cupido was caught by the bodyguards of alleged 26s and Sexy Boys gang leader, Jerome “Donkie” Booysen, on Thursday night during an alleged assassination attempt at the Bellville Melomed
Hospital.
A man dressed as a female doctor, complete with a black wig and navy-blue pumps, gained access to Booysen’s ward.
The man roused the suspicion of Booysen’s bodyguards who caught him before he could jab the patient with a syringe filled with black mamba venom. He apparently also had a scalpel in his coat pocket “as back-up”.
Booysen was in hospital after he was shot four times at the Cape Town International Airport last Wednesday.
Cupido was remanded into custody for him to get legal representation. He will appear in court again today.
Police also linked Cupido to a stolen car found at the hospital, after finding the car’s keys in his coat pocket. Police say the vehicle was stolen in Simon’s Town.
It is rumoured rival gangs have put a bounty of R5 million on Booysen’s head and want him dead by Christmas.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said no arrests have been made in connection with the airport shooting yet.
