The Reserve Bank has warned mense not to fall for a scam where skelms come to their homes to “recall money infected with the coronavirus”.
The skelms carry fake SARB identification and provide false receipts, which people must take to banks to “reclaim” their money.
“The SARB has neither withdrawn any banknotes or coins nor issued any instruction to hand in banknotes or coins that may be contaminated with the Covid-19 virus,” it said.
“The SARB will NOT, under any circumstances, send employees or representatives to collect cash from the public.
“There currently is no evidence that the Covid-19 virus is transmitted through the use of banknotes and coin.”
