A Metro police officer was one of eight victims wounded in taxi-related violence on Wednesday.
Several Codeta drivers were shot and injured while transporting commuters yesterday morning.
The Congress for Democratic Taxi Associations (Codeta) had decided to operate yesterday after shootings left three of their drivers dead on Tuesday.
Both Cata and Codeta took their taxis off the road for the rest of that day.
Cata said all operations would be suspended until their drivers’ safety is guaranteed.
It is unclear whether any taxis would be operating today.
Mayco member for Safety and Security JP Smith said the officer was shot in Sweet Home Informal Settlement while metro cops and SAPS officers were chasing a group of suspects who had been shooting at taxis along Jakes Gerwel Drive.
The officer sustained a bullet wound to the leg.
“This is one of a number of incidents today in the ongoing taxi conflict that has left a number of people dead in recent days,” said Smith.
