The Western Cape Department of Social Development has confirmed that the eight-month-old Bonteheuwel baby who was brutally raped, has been put in a place of safety.
Police have yet to make an arrest and it is understood that DNA testing is currently underway.
The Daily Voice brought you the horrific story earlier this week, after the alarm was raised by family members and Bonteheuwel ward councillor, Angus Mckenzie.
The infant had allegedly been left in the care of her grandmother on Saturday, June 29.
Details are yet to be revealed on who is responsible for the attack and what really happened.
Social Development MEC, Sharna Fernandez confirmed the baby had been taken from the care of her mother and grandparents and placed in a safe house:
Joshua Covenant Chigome, spokesperson for the MEC said: “The Western Cape Department of Social Development can confirm that the child is in a place of safety. When making these decisions, the best interest of the child is always considered above all."
