A Heideveld woman says her home was flooded with poo water for the second time in three months by an overflowing sewage drain and the City of Cape Town is ignoring her plight.
In July, Fagmieda Samodien, 43, from Table Mountain Road, suffered a hectic loss when her whole house was flooded and their beds, cupboards, washing machine, kitchen appliances and clothes were all damaged.
“I have requested the City move the drains situated in front and at the back of my premises.
“No one else has this problem except me and it’s taking its toll now,” the angry mom says.
She says the latest overflow has again damaged her home and belongings while her claim for the first incident has still not been paid out.

“It has been almost three months and they have not even been at my house to inspect, so how are they investigating?”
She says the poo water is a health hazard.
“My son is sick again and I assume it’s because of all the germs.
“I cannot keep staying out of work. And now the City doesn’t even want to pay me out,” the frustrated mom says.
Mayco Member for Water and Waste, Xanthea Limberg, says they are investigating whether the drain can be moved from the property.

“The pipeline can unfortunately not be moved. However, the City is currently investigating whether it is technically possible to install a non-return valve on the connection from the municipal main in order to alleviate the problems this resident is experiencing.
“Newspapers were the main cause of this particular blockage, however, rags, plastic, bottles and sand were also removed from the pipeline.”
