Alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack says he is alive and well after a fake police crime intelligence report made the rounds on social media on Tuesday claiming he had been gunned down.
The report said Modack was shot and killed in Bellville at an auction house.
According to the police alert, the security boss had apparently “died” on the scene while a woman was also shot and wounded and nine cartridges of the shooter were found.
The WhatsApp message was posted on various anti-crime groups, and read: “Deceased: Nafiz Modack, shot 1x in the head and 2 x chest. Debrah Thysse, 54-years-old DOB 1965-05-06 residing at 60 Hazel Street Elsiesrivier. Shot 1x left thigh [sic].”
The bogus report stated that Modack was checking out cars at the Aucor Auction House when two men pulled up in a VW Polo and opened fired.

However, police -Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed on Tuesday that the report was fake and no shooting took place. The source of the alert is not known.
Speaking to the Daily Voice, Modack said he was aware of the report, joking that it would take “much more” to kill him.
“They need more than two gunmen and they need to shoot 40 armed guards first to get to me,” Modack said.
Meanwhile, management at Aucor has reacted angrily at the bad publicity the fake report has generated for the company.
“This is not true. Here has never been any shooting. This is a hoax,” a manager, who did not want to be named said.
Modack, along with Colin Booysen, the brother of alleged Sexy Boys gang boss Jerome “Donkie” Booysen, as well as Ashley Fields and Jacques Cronjé currently face charges of money laundering and extortion linked to a violent takeover of the nightclub security industry.
They will appear in the Cape Town Regional Court again on 15 April.
