The case of the man accused of killing Bonteheuwel mom Lauren Dryden outside her workplace three months ago has been postponed again.
Fernando Isaacs, 36, allegedly shot and killed Lauren, 31, as she was waiting for an Uber taxi after a night shift in King Hall Avenue in Epping 2, Elsies River on 20 November 2020.
The accused allegedly robbed the mother of two young children of her cellphone before shooting her.
At the time, Ward councillor Angus McKenzie explained: “On Friday morning (at 6am) Lauren finished her late night shift and called her Uber to take her home.
“While waiting outside the company premises the suspect approached her demanding her cellphone. Once the phone was taken a firearm was drawn and Lauren was shot.”
Cops made a breakthrough and Isaacs was arrested less than 24 hours after the murder.
Isaacs made his first appearance at the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court and his case was then transferred to Goodwood because Epping falls under that jurisdiction.
The accused abandoned his bail application in December.
National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesman Eric Ntabazalila said yesterday that the case was postponed to 29 March for further investigation.
“Fernando Isaacs appeared at the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court today.
“He is charged with the murder of Lauren Dryden in Epping. His case has been postponed for further investigation.”
Lauren’s fiance Ashley Ruiters says the postponements are tiring him out, but he is hanging in there and hopes the law will take its course.
“Sometimes I feel angry about the case, it’s taking too long,” he says.
“I am learning to be patient because the police must do a thorough investigation for a good result.”
