Elsies River police officers are on the hunt for angry skelms who set a liquor shop in Halt Road on fire after they could not find any dop on the premises on Saturday.
City Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says firefighters responded to a call for help at Diamonds Liquor Store in Halt Road at 6.35pm and found crates inside the store alight.
“The only items that were burning were crates inside the shop,” he says.
“There was no alcohol on the premises and firefighters found the front window bashed in. The fire was extinguished quickly and there were no injuries.”

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says Elsies River detectives are investigating a case of arson after a number of suspects forced their way into a liquor store on Saturday evening.
She says they went into the storeroom, but found the alcohol had already been moved.
“Upon gaining entry to the premises, the suspects went for the storeroom which was empty as alcohol had been moved,” she says.
“They set the crates and bottles on fire thereby damaging the ceiling to the property.
“No arrests have been made thus far and the investigation continues.”
Since the ban on alcohol sales during the nationwide lockdown, at least 17 liquor stores across the Cape Flats have been burgled and looted.
