The charged consist of corruption, racketeering and money laundering involving about R1.6 million.
Former police commissioner Arno Lamoer and brigadiers Darius van der Ross, Sharon Govender and her husband Colin Govender, along with well-known businessman Salim Dawjee, all pleaded not guilty to the charges relating to corruption.
Some of the charges are also related to criminal activity around firearms and ammunition.
On Monday State prosecutor, Billy Downer, presented a document, sent to the defence team late on Sunday night, which links their transcripts and evidence to cellphone records the defence wants deemed inadmissible.
The defence, in this instance said the State is purposefully not giving them proper time to review documents and prepare a counter.
They feel the state is being aspris.
Downer said the document he handed up to request the cellphone records to be included were only for three of the cellphone records.
He also dismissed the defence’s claim that they, the State, intentionally and deliberately did not give enough time for a proper review.
Downer did confirm the document was a rearrangement of one the defence already had, with minor adjustments.
The defence’s argument was that the cellphone-tapping was done illegally and therefore cannot be allowed as part of the evidence in trial.
