A Manenberg skollie will spend the next 20 years behind bars after being found guilty of murder and participating in gang activity.
Faried Johnson, 27, was handed the hefty sentence at Wynberg Regional Court on Monday for the murder of Lindsay Arendse, 24, in July last year.
He was charged under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA).
Manenberg Police Station commander, Brigadier Enolium Joseph, says Johnson who is a member of the Junky Funky Kidz gang, shot and killed Arendse, of the West Siders gang, during a drive-by shooting.
Johnson along with Garin Paulse, drove a white Nissan bakkie and opened fire on Arendse in Waterberg Road and shot him in the head and bum.
The pair were arrested by Manenberg detectives two days later and Paulse received a life sentence in December for his part in a separate murder.
“Paulse appeared in the Cape High Court last year and was given a life sentence for the plotting of the murder in a different case,” explains Joseph.
“This week Johnson appeared in the Wynberg Regional Court where he was given the hefty sentence for murder but also found guilty on various sections of the POCA.
“This related to his role in gang activity and being an active member of the Junky Funkys gang.
“He was found guilty on various counts and his sentences will run concurrently.
“He will serve an effective 20 years in Pollsmoor. We welcome this sentence.”
