One of the men accused of killing six-month-old Zahnia Woodward in Ocean View in 2016 says he does not know Jesus either.
Testifying in the Cape High Court on Monday, Larry Johnson echoed his fellow accused Christopher September’s testimony of last week, during which he denied knowing a man named Jesus who cleaned guns at the home of Larry’s mother, Mirriam.
September, Larry, Mirriam, Tashwill Kriel and Morné May face charges of murder, attempted murder and obstruction of justice.
The four men are accused of driving Larry’s white Volkswagon Golf and opening fire on Zahnia’s dad Bradley Robyn and his friends.
The baby was sitting on Bradley’s lap at the time.
Mirriam says Larry called her after the shooting to arrange for someone to fetch his car keys from Jesus at Fish Hoek Station.
She asked her niece, Simoney Kindo, to fetch the key.
Kindo pleaded guilty to assisting to hide the car and is currently serving four years.
Mirriam also says on the day of the shooting, September came with ‘his friend Jesus’ to get guns at her house.
Larry admits telling September to take his white Golf and trade it for his girlfriend’s white Golf.
“I was trying to help him because he told me he was being accused of the shooting and I was too.”
He denies killing the baby, saying he was at his father’s house in Masiphumelele at the time getting a massage.
Asked why his mother would lie about Jesus, Larry said: “He is a Funky and the Funkies have been trying to get me to join their gang. I don’t know a Jesus.”
