A former member of the Terrible Josters gang has confessed that he did not warn his best friend about a plot by the Sexy Boys gang to kill him because he feared for his own life.
A month after his explosive testimony at the Western Cape High Court, where he implicated alleged Sexy Boys gang leader, Jerome “Donkie” Booysen in a plot to kill his friend, Tyrone Constable, the state’s star witness, revealed he ignored his friend’s calls as he feared the Josters would kill him if he warned his friend.
The self-confessed hitman and drug dealer from Belhar burst into tears in August as he testified in the high-profile trial of Ernest “Ernie Lastig” Solomons’ nephew, Horatio “Voudie” Solomons and 11 others.
The 204 witness outed Horatio as the Delft leader for the Terrible Josters and claimed to be a close confidant of Elton “Gappie” Ely, who he says is the Belhar leader for the same gang.
In August, he broke down in the dock when he told Judge Owen Rogers that Constable was killed after an alleged threat by Donkie after they carried out a hit on Wayne “Lonty” Lekeur on 30 July 2014 in Leerdam Crescent, Belhar.
He said he was instructed by Ely to collect Constable and Elroy van Wyk at a pella pos run by the Terrible Josters in Wellington to kill Lonty.
NAMED: Elton ‘Gappie’ Ely, alleged gang leader of Terrible Josters in Belhar.
He said after the murder, Ely got a call from Belhar police saying he needed to report to the station but when they arrived there, officers placed them in two separate rooms where they were allegedly moered to reveal information about the location of Constable and Van Wyk.
The cops went to Wellington after allegedly being given a map by Ely, and they arrested Van Wyk, but Constable escaped.
When asked what happened to Constable, he started to tjank, claiming Donkie allegedly called Ely and demanded Constable be handed over or Ely’s mother would be killed.
Asked by Ely’s lawyer if he was telling the truth about why he did not warn his friend, the witness said: “They would have killed me. Accused 5 told me not to answer my phone if Tyrone called.”
The witness did not elaborate on how Constable was killed but confirmed that Van Wyk was later charged with Lonty’s murder.
ON TRIAL: Horatio Solomons.
According to a police source, after Lonty’s murder, Constable went on the run and left Belhar and stayed with his girlfriend in Elsies, where both were later killed.
“Elroy was charged for murder and appeared at Bellville Magistrates’ Court but after he got bail, he was shot vrek,” says the source.
The trial continues.
