Police are closing in on the hijacker who shot and killed a Factreton father in cold blood at a garage last week.
The Kensington Community Police Forum (CPF) has issued an appeal to residents to help identify the driver of a bakkie that was seen dropping off the skelm who shot and killed Winston Petersen.
Petersen, 59, was gunned down at the Shell garage in Voortrekker Road on Thursday shortly after 2am.
Shocking footage of the shooting emerged on crime chat groups, showing the hijacker dressed in a grey hoodie, walking up to the dad.
He appears to be speaking to the victim who turns around to get into his car and that is when the skelm shoots the man in the back of his head and collapses.
Gunsmoke can be seen as the bullet hits him at point-blank range and he collapses on the floor as the dief drives off in his Honda BR-V.
CPF chairperson Cheslyn Steenberg says they were called into a meeting by police on Saturday and asked to circulate the picture of the bakkie.
“On Thursday night the hijacked vehicle was found in Parow after it had been set alight,” he says.
“The station commander and his team briefed the CPF and explained they are closing in on the suspects.
“They revealed that footage of a man driving a white bakkie emerged and this was the same vehicle used to drop off the shooter.
“We are appealing to residents who know anything about the driver or this bakkie to come forward.
“The community is still in shock the senseless murder of Petersen.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Warrant Officer Petrus Smart on 072 391 1215.
