A Cape Flats ouma is kwaad after her three-year-old grandchild, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by two males, was sent back to live with them.
The 65-year-old grandmother from Chatsworth says the child, who lives in Lotus River with her mother, kept complaining to her about a “sore koekie”.
“Then on 4 October, she went to the toilet and asked her dad to wipe her and said ouch,” she says.
“She told her father the 12-year-old cousin made her koekie sore.”
The next day, while bathing the child, she saw her vagina was red and swollen.
She immediately took the child to the police and hospital where doctors confirmed she had been sexually assaulted.
They then received another shock when the child revealed she was also allegedly attacked by a 28-year-old man who also lives in the yard.
The ouma says: “I asked her how he scared her and she said with his ‘tail’. She said it’s pink, it has hair and it stinks’.
“The child drew the ‘tail’ which was a penis. I asked how she knew it stinks, she gestured towards her mouth, like he wanted to put it in her mouth.”

The granny fears the child’s mother is in denial and claims the cop working on the case is friends with the mother’s family.
“We already had a J88 form, yet this cop demanded another one,” she adds.
“He is their family’s priest from the New Apostolic Church, and threatened me, saying if this is negative, he’ll be coming for me like a bull.
“How can social workers allow the child to be placed back into that home?”
Police spokesperson Mihlali Majikela says: “At this stage no further information can be provided as it will hamper the investigation.”
The Department of Social Development’s Head of Communications, Esther Lewis, said they are aware of the case but cannot comment on any specific details.
“Social workers have been involved to provide the necessary psychosocial support,” she says.
