A heartbroken Schaapkraal dad is pleading with his son’s kidnappers for information about what happened to him.
More than a month after a Grassy Park couple was arrested and charged for the kidnapping of Mohammed Rif’at Booranoodien, 29, the duo has remained toebek about what happened to the electrician.
Rif’at was last seen driving his black Audi A3 on 21 February while going to visit friends.
Suspects Fazrie Benjamin, 27, and his girlfriend, Mishka Francis, 28, were arrested after Benjamin tried to extort R1000 from Rif’at’s parents.
The couple is set to return to Wynberg Magistrates’ Court this week for a bail application.
Grassy Park Police Station commander Colonel Dawood Laing says investigators have hit a wall: “Since their arrest they refuse to talk about what happened to the victim.
“As the couple were the last to see him and tried to extort money from his family they are facing serious charges and we are going to court to oppose their bail.
“We need help from the public. Somebody knows something and all they have to do is call us. The suspects are behind bars and cannot hurt them.”
Rif’at’s family say they are starting to lose hope: “We hope he is alive, but then we also hear what people are saying when they mention how long it has been.
“All I want to say to Fazrie is that we don’t care about the car or any possessions, all we want to know is where our son so we can get closure.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Laing on 082 469 3016 or Sergeant Adrian Baron on 082 411 3120.
