The Cape of Good Hope SPCA is investigating a case of animal cruelty after two dogs were flung out of a car in Strandfontein on Monday afternoon.
Photos of the incident and the two dogs, a pit bull and a fox terrier cross breed, were shared on social media, sparking outrage among animal lovers.
The dogs were rescued by a 56-year-old woman who spotted the occupants of a silver Mercedes Benz dumping the animals along Spine Road.
According to a statement by the SPCA, they were called for urgent help by the woman.
“A kind-hearted animal lover witnessed a disturbing scene whereby two dogs were allegedly dumped off Spine Road, Strandfontein, at approximately 4.30pm,” it said in a statement.

“The witness claims to have seen the alleged owner remove the two dogs from their car boot and then proceeded to drop them on the side of the road and drive off, abandoning them.
“A SPCA staff member was dispatched to the scene where, upon arrival, he found the two dogs being cared for by the complainant who had gone out of their way to help until the SPCA arrived on scene.”
The SPCA says both dogs are receiving veterinary care and treatment at their Animal Clinic under the watchful eye of head veterinarian, Dr Mark Middleton.
“The COGH SPCA is investiga- ting this matter and will ensure that justice is served on behalf of these animals who were subjected to unnecessary suffering and cruelty.”
Strandfontein Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson, Sandy Schuter, says there has been an hike in the theft of dogs, especially pit bulls, in the area.

“We thank the local hero for her compassion towards the dogs and ensuring that justice be served,” says Schuter.
“There is an increase of dogs especially pit bulls that are being stolen daily and when found, they seemed to have been used for fights based on their appearance.
“We’re hoping that this sparks the vigilance in residents to spot these animal thieves and report them to the relevant departments.”
