Farmers in Schaapkraal have saved the life of an injured dog that managed to chew through a suitcase after it was locked inside of it.
Jacky Ruppersberg, 64, and her husband, Jannie, 68, a retired cop who lives in Schaapkraal, were driving along Olieboom Road on Tuesday afternoon when they noticed something moving inside a broken brown suitcase on the side of the road.
The animal lovers stopped to investigate and discovered a dog inside the tas.

“To us it seemed like the dog had been inside there for days and that it had chewed and forced it open,” says a shocked Jacky.
“It had a wound on the back and was very hungry and thirsty.”
They rushed the bitch to Camelot Kennels in Schaapkraal, and she will also be examined by the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa in Philippi.
Camelot Kennels says despite the trauma the brakkie experienced, she is very sweet and friendly, and needs a new home.

One cat, named Ivy, was found to have trouble breathing while the other’s face had been cut open due to a vehicle
accident.
SPCA spokesperson , Belinda Abraham, says: “Pirate had a large laceration on the right side of his face and one eye.
“The inside of Pirate’s mouth was clearly visible with no skin covering the area.
CUT: Pirate was injured
“Further evidence indicated that Pirate has been in the owner’s care since mid-January 2020 and most likely sustained the injuries from a motor vehicle accident.
“The owners claimed that they took Pirate to a veterinarian.”
But, Belinda says this was three days after the accident.
“Our resident veterinarian Dr Janelle Maistry performed surgery on Pirate to safely remove his eye, eyelids and tear glands,”
“The operation was a success and Pirate is currently healing well.” she says, adding that Pirate will be up for adoption once healed and the owners will face animal cruelty charges.
