A Hanover Park family says nearly TWO months after their son was killed in a nightclub by a notorious “drug smuggler”, cops have still not made any arrests despite witnesses fingering the alleged killer.
Witnesses claim Nurrudien Williams, 27, was stabbed to death during a scuffle with Moegamat Rafiek Hayners, 24, and his brother at Da Pen in Lansdowne and stabbed in the head.
They claim despite witnessing the incident, detectives from Lansdowne Police Station have never taken their statements.
Hayners currently faces culpable homicide charges for the death of six-year-old Shaylynn Arendse and her nanny, Maureen Abrahams, in a hit and run incident in September last year.
HIT AND RUN: Shaylynn Arendse, 6
Two months later while out on parole, Hayners, who allegedly has links to the Ghetto Kidz gang, was bust by the Hawks at a storage facility in Somerset West with drugs worth R8.9 million.
According to a high-ranking police source, Hayners is feared in Hanover Park: “He is known as Goofy, but he is not a gangster. People are scared of him because his father is Sheikh, the main drug supplier for the Ghetto Kidz.”
Rukshana van der Berg, 32, says her brother, Nurrudien, who lived in Salt River, was at a Cooler Box Party on 2 March with friends from Hanover Park.
“He was stabbed at the club and my cousin was called to Heideveld Emergency Centre where someone in a bakkie had taken him,” she says.
VICTIM: Nurrudien Williams, 27, was stabbed to death at a party
“My parents were told he was being transferred to Groote Schuur Hospital and we went there to say goodbye.
“Nurrudien died the Sunday and his janaazah was two days later.
“We don’t know who did it or what exactly happened and I have asked the police, but they just said they have no arrests.”
She says her brother was not married and did not have children.
According to witnesses, who asked to remain anonymous, the party was held in a courtyard and Hayners and his brother arrived before midnight and were being aggressive.
“They came and the vibe changed because they just came in and smacked people.”
“There was no argument, but later Nurrudien was inside and there was a commotion and there was shouting and glasses breaking.”
Asked who killed Nurrudien, the witness said: “It was Goofy and his brother.”
KILLED: Nanny Maureen Abrahams
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut, confirms the murder
and says no arrests have been made.
He adds: “The allegation that police are covering for the suspects are devoid of the truth. The family is encouraged to lodge an official complaint with the management of Lansdowne Police Station if they are not satisfied with the progress of the investigation.”
