A Bonteheuwel man says he has opened a case against police officers after he was tied up and assaulted when cops ransacked his home searching for guns and drugs.
The young dad of two says to top it off, one of the officers knocked over one of his neighbours as they sped off, breaking his leg in three places.
Mark Goodall, 31, who lives in Bramble Way, says this was the second “attack” from cops which this time left his face bruised and swollen.
Mark says he is gatvol and has no idea why cops keep targeting him.
He says last month they came twice to his house “and it’s always over a weekend”.
He says although he used to be “a naughty laaitie” he is grown up now.
“They have been targeting me for so long and I don’t know why,” he says.
“On Sunday afternoon at about 5pm the police came to my house looking for drugs and guns. They came in smashing through the furniture and the cupboards and then they smashed through the whole house.
RANSACKED: Mark Goodall’s home was left in a mess
“They broke the doors and threw all my stuff out. They then tied me up and hit and kicked me. They kept asking where I keep the stuff,” Mark says.
According to him, three officers took turns beating him up.
“They punched me and kicked me in the face, my ribs are swollen and I have bruises all over my body. They should go after the real criminals. I’m just trying to live a nice life,” the angry dad says.
“He is too afraid of the police and what they will do. They could have killed him. I am tired of these assaults on innocent people. I want justice.”
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, did not respond to questions about the raid on Mark’s house but confirmed a case of assault is being investigated against officers.
“Bishop Lavis police can confirm that a case of common assault has been registered. The matter has been transferred to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) for further investigation,” says Malo.
