Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of beloved Mitchells Plain teen, Chad Arendse on Friday.
Chad,19, from Beacon Valley, who was the drum major for the Littlewood Primary Drill Squad and the Western Province Marching Squad, was ruthlessly gunned down in Beaufort Street in Rocklands on June 16.
The community hero was shot in his head 12 to 14 times.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed the suspect will be appearing in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
“Please be advised the suspect was arrested on Friday and he is expected to make a court appearance on Monday,” Rwexana said.
Chad’s bereaved mother, Natasha Arendse, 39 says detectives informed her an arrest was made on Friday morning.
“I am aware someone was arrested. The detective told me past 7 on Friday. Apparently the suspect was arrested at 4am. I can’t say I am happy because that’s not going to bring my son back. This is all so stressful, we don’t know anything about going to court,” Natasha says.
The family also has signed petitions calling for no bail for Chad’s alleged killer.
“We have about 20 pages that are signed from all over as we petition for no bail,” she added.
