The case against alleged paedophile David ‘Ta Pops’ Dudley now has nine victims, with more than 30 counts of rape and sexual assault on boys aged 11 to 18.
The case against a 66-year-old panel beater from Ottery was postponed yet again in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court after the defense indicated they were not ready to proceed.
Dudley was supposed to apply for bail.
His lawyer told Magistrate Goolam Bawa that they could not go ahead with the bail application as he had an urgent court matter to attend to at the Western Cape High Court.
Bawa did not ask what this urgent matter was and postponed the case to 13 March.
Community activist Melanie Arendse says she has now been approached by the parents of two girls, aged 10 and 11, who will also be opening rape cases against Dudley.
According to two of the victims, Dudley would pick up poor boys at the old stables in George Way, drive them to various secluded areas and give them drugs to get them erect.
They say he would then touch their penises, perform oral sex on them and make them do the same to him.
After that, the boys penetrated him anally.
One of the victims, who is now 11, says it has been happening for three years.
The boy’s uncle yesterday said the child is back at school.
“He is talking about what happened to him. This man abused him and he needs to go for counselling before this messes up his life,” the uncle explains.
“I am really proud of him and he says he is ready to go to court and say what that man did to him.”
