It was a lucky day for Law Enforcement officers when they caught a poacher in the act.
Spokesman, Inspector Wayne Dyason, says members from the City’s Law Enforcement Marine Unit were carrying out a joint operation with the Table Mountain National Parks rangers on Thursday when they noticed poachers along Hout Bay and Kommetjie.
Dyason says his men jumped into action and chased after the
poachers.
They managed to catch one of the men and found nine abalone in his possession while the others got away.
IN ACT: Perly poacher
“Two rubber inflatable boats were launched and officers were placed at strategic land vantage points to give their waterborne colleagues real time information on where divers were in the water.
“They spotted a group of divers between Hout Bay and Kommetjie and approached them.
“The divers quickly jettisoned their illegal catch and fled.
“One suspect was eventually caught and arrested by a Law Enforcement officer. Nine units of abalone were recovered.”
