Three men have appeared in court and were granted bail after they were allegedly found in possession of a weapon and ammunition at a house in Khayelisha.
Nonhlele Tityala, 52, Siyanda Ndamane, 24, and Sibabalwe Fako, 23, were granted R5 000 bail each last week.
They are facing charges of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
They were arrested on Tuesday during a joint operation by the Hawks, the National Bureau for Illegal Firearms Control and Priority Violent Crime and the Anti-Gang Unit.
Gun found at the house
One shotgun was found at the premises as well as various types of ammunition for pistols, shotgun and rifles.
The team also seized primers, bullet points and empty cartridges.
Captain Philani Nkwalase of the Hawks describes the bust as a big breakthrough for law enforcement.
“We believe the premises was used to manufacture ammunition.”
The trio are expected back at the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court on 21 May.
