President Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday expressed his deep condolences at the death of former United Nations (UN) secretary general Kofi Annan.
He paid tribute to Annan “as a great leader and diplomat extraordinaire”, who had advanced the African agenda within the UN and had “flown the flag for peace” around the world.
Annan, 80, who became the seventh UN secretary general, died on Saturday in Switzerland after a short illness.
The Ghanaian diplomat was awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize in 2001 and was the first black African to head the UN.
