A mom of a schoolgirl is relieved that her 13-year-old daughter was not “penetrated” during a sex attack, but refused to send her back to class to face the perpetrators.
The Grade 7 learner at Norwood Primary School in Elsies River was attacked by known suspects during interval on the school’s premises last Wednesday.
It’s alleged five school mates grabbed, beat her and one boy got on top of her and tried to rape her.
“They were so violent, they touched her inappropriately so she had to be checked whether she had been penetrated.
“One of the boys was on top of her, it is disgusting,” says the mom.
“The [tests] has proven she’s fine, they did not go that far but she had bruises between her legs and complained it was sore.
“I was so relieved when I got the results.
“She’s doing fine but still traumatised and to make it worse, two of those kids come and shout outside our place, insulting and threatening her.
“One of these children is her classmate, how is my daughter going to concentrate on her school work with her perpetrator right there?
“I rather stay with her and be sure she’s safe. I still cannot understand how this could happen inside the school, I am angry, it is frustrating.
“I am now sitting with an emotionally bruised child, dealing with trauma and sleepless nights while those kids are walking free, thinking what they did was right.”
The mom says she’ll be fetching school work for her daughter until the matter is addressed.
Millicent Merton, spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department, says: “I can confirm that her mother collects her notes and assignments from school. Support has been arranged for the learner.
“The school has arranged talks to raise awareness amongst learners about abuse and safety.”
SAPS’ Joseph Swartbooi, says rape, sexual assault and assault cases are still under investigation with no arrests yet.
