The mother who allegedly left her disabled 16-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son alone to starve and live in their own waste has been arrested.
Cops busted the 33-year-old mother on Thursday night, 24 hours after the siblings were rescued by members of Enough is Enough neighbourhood watch in Leiden, Delft.
The woman is expected to make her first appearance in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court today (Monday) on a charge of child neglect.
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, confirms: “A case of child neglect was opened for investigation at Delft Police Station.
“A 33-year-old female suspect was arrested. The suspect is due to appear in Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Monday.”
Angelique Ross, a member of Enough is Enough, says she was called to the hokkie in Leiden last Wednesday where she found the disabled teen, who has cerebral palsy, crawling on the pavement.

She said the child suffered eight epileptic seizues while she waited for authorities for six hours.
The teen had been left in the care of her little brother while her mother apparently left for Parow and her boyfriend was at work.
Residents claimed slapgat cops and social workers took 16 hours to arrive to assist the children.
They found the Wendy house in which they lived filled with maggots and flies.
Buckets filled with faeces and urine were also found.
Angelique opened a case of child neglect on Thursday morning.
She was present when police arrested the mother.
The disabled child is currently undergoing tests at Karl Bremer Hospital while her brother has been placed in a place of safety.
“I made a case at the police station and later the detectives came to fetch me and they arrested the mother,” says Angelique.
“The girl is still at Karl Bremer [Hospital] where she is being tested.
“There were maggots coming out of her private part.”
Last week Cayla Murray, the spokesperson for Social Development MEC Albert Fritz, said social workers were investigating the case.
