Metrorail and rescue workers had their hands full this week after THREE people were pushed or had fallen out of trains, leaving them seriously injured.
Yesterday, two people were injured at different stations.
A 19-year-old man had been travelling on a train from Melton Rose to Blackheath just after 7.30am when he fell out of the train, according to Metrorail officials.
He was treated at the scene and taken to Tygerberg Hospital.
Meanwhile, a man identified as Claude de Klerk, from Seawinds, had been travelling between Heathfield and Retreat stations when he was allegedly pushed out of the train.
But authorities say they believe he fell while standing in the open doors.
He was taken to a nearby hospital after being injured.
Claude was left with a fractured shoulder and a cut to his jaw and also lost a tooth and sustained a concussion.
Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott blames overcrowding and appealed to passengers not to disembark while the train is in motion.
She says the 19-year-old was injured when he moved between coaches while the train was in motion, while Claude fell out of a train because the doors were open.
“Two incidents of passengers falling out of trains were reported (yesterday) morning, both incidents happened shortly after 7.30am,” she says.
“First reports indicate that the young man was travelling between coaches when he fell from a train in the section between Melton Rose and Blackheath.
“The second incident happened on board a train travelling between Heathfield and Retreat.”
Earlier this week, a young man crossing railway tracks illegally between Ottery and Southfield was injured when he was struck by a train.
