An aspiring soccer player from Bonteheuwel needs your help to raise the R24 000 needed to get him to Mississippi, USA, in April.
Chrisando Rass, 15, a Grade 9 pupil at Bonteheuwel High School, has been invited to play at the Players Cup Tournament in Gulfport between 22 April and 26 April.
The Manchester United supporter says he’s been playing footie since he was five-years-old.
“Soccer is a huge part of my life and it’s what keeps me off from the streets and away from gangsterism and drugs,” says Chrisando.
“I play the position of a holding midfielder and (ironically) my favourite player is Virgil van Dijk, from Liverpool.”
GOLD: Chrisando, 15, plays for Bluegum
Chrisando plays for his school and the Bluegum United Football Club, but says his dream is to “play overseas, make money and take care of my family and everyone who takes care of me.”
“I want to make it out of Bonteheuwel, as the area is extremely violent, and make something of my life,” says the teen.
“When I got the invitation to play overseas, I was shocked. I will be able to learn new skills, and share my experience with others.”
HELP: Chrisando Rass needs R24 000
His proud mother, Audrey Rass, says she’s been selling various items to raise money, but things are not going well.
“I have been selling duvets, towels, made lists for people to donate, my sister has a kettle
raffle at work and this Friday we’re having a disco at Club Planet in Voortrekker Road, Parow.
“But money has been coming in slow and we’ve probably only made about R5 000,” Audrey says.
