A shooting incident on Saturday evening has left one man dead and three others critically injured.
According to witnesses, an unknown amount of men had approached the four victims at the corner of Valhalla Drive and Jakkalsvlei Avenue.
They then apparently started arguing.
A witness says she heard shouting, followed by gunshots.
“We could hear shouts and stuff, but I don’t know what they were arguing about. The mense say it was not even different gangs, but fights inside of one group that now has the community in the middle. The dead guy was shot off his bike,” she says.
“When the shooting started we just lay on the ground until it was over. When we went outside there was a dead guy and three others injured, but it’s OK if they are killing each other and we don’t get hurt.”
SAPS’ Lieut-Col. Andrè Traut confirms a 21-year-old man was shot and killed and three wounded at 7.15pm in Kalksteenfontein.
“Unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” he says.
The Valhalla Drive and Jakkalsvlei Avenue intersection is a notorious smash and grab hotspot.
In July last year, a dreadlocked motorist shot and killed a man who tried to rob him at the intersection.
According to a witness, Elizabeth Kleinsmith, who is also a member of the Bishop Lavis Neighbourhood Watch, the unknown driver simply said “f*** him” and drove off after shooting the 34-year-old “dief” from Kalksteenfontein.
