Two Lavender Hill teens, who have become soccer icons in their community, were selected by Coach Me Too to take part in the 2nd Annual 2020 Alicante Cup in Spain.
The International Youth Tour is taking place in June 2020 and is an opportunity for Tristan Hollander and Imtiaaz Ruiters, both 16, of the Lavender Hill Football Club, to shine on an international stage.
Imtiaaz’s mom, Togiedah, said she was proud of the boys and wants them to live their dreams.
The boys are keen to pursue a professional career in soccer.
Togiedah says she has been to each match and supported the club because it keeps boys off the street and reminds everyone “there is more to our poor areas than gangs and violence”.

She says, however, the teens need help to get to Spain.
“A total of R37 500 is required per player for the tournament, which will cover travel and accommodation as well.
“An initial deposit of R6000 was needed by the end of this month to secure Imtiyaaz’s place, which, thankfully, was donated.
“We live in Lavender Hill, known as gangland. Young boys their age are trapped in a vicious cycle of guns and drugs not knowing if today will be their last day on earth due to constant gang wars,” Togiedah said.
The mother of six is now appealing for help, saying: “If I was by the means, I would gladly pay the money out of my own pocket, but I am unable to do so.”
