Alleged girlfriend killer Wayne Lawrence is set to go on trial at the Western Cape High Court later this year for the murder of Angela Marinus.
The 36-year-old mom from Montevideo was killed outside her home in Nevada Street in December 2017 when she was allegedly shot by Lawrence.
Marinus was shot in her head and neck and one of the bullets ricocheted off her and hit her 16-year-old daughter, who was with her in the car, in the foot.
It is alleged that the shooter was Lawrence, and that he fled the scene.
Two days later he handed himself over at Bishop Lavis Police Station.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila says Lawrence is accused of premidated murder, attempted murder and breach of a protection order.
“The accused is charged with murder of of his partner from who he was separated. He abused her physically and emotionally.
“He stalked her and waited for her at her mother's house and shot her in the head and body at close range as she was parking her vehicle.
“Their daughter was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting (sitting in the front seat). She was injured.
“The accused has changed his legal representative and William Booth will be taking over from Advocate Joseph Weeber.”
