A Six-year-old boy has been dramatically rescued after he was snatched while playing in front of his Nyanga East home.
The driver of a car was seen taking pictures of Asange April and his friends on Saturday afternoon.
But in less than three hours of being kidnapped, the child was reunited with his mom, Tsidie.
She explains: “I went to the police station and while I was waiting for someone to help me, I received a call and I was informed that my child was back at home.
“He was rescued by a taxi driver who said he took him from the suspect.
“It was such a relief and I consider myself lucky because other children are never found after they are abducted.”
The kidnapper, who was driving a silver Peugeot, had approached the children around 6pm and asked for directions.
“He opened the passenger door and my son was standing closer to the car,” says Tsidie.
“The man stretched to the passenger side and he just grabbed my son and sped off.”
He drove with Asange to Gugulethu Station Park, where he was found by a taxi driver, who is known as Malibongwe.
“I was sitting in the taxi when I saw the silver Peugeot, the man came out with the child and went to about three houses,” he says.
“And in the third one, he went up the stairs and then held the child over the railings like he wanted to throw the child to the ground.
“That is when I reacted. I went to the man and told him to take the child back home to his mother. I assumed he was the father.”
Malibongwe says the suspect drove with the child and he followed.
“I saw him go into another house, but I grabbed the child from him and he (boy) told me he had been kidnapped and so I took him back home to his mom.
“When I went back to Station Park, I found community members were beating up the suspect for trying to kidnap a little girl.
“In the boot of his car I found lots of injections.”
Police spokeswoman Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says cops are yet to make an arrest.
“An abduction case has been opened for investigation after an unknown suspected abducted a six-year-old,” she says.
