An innocent man from Hanover Park is lucky to be alive after being caught in the crossfire of rival gangs on Wednesday night.
The elderly mother of Faiek Marinus, 31, says he was struck in the back by a stray bullet but luckily survived after paramedics managed to stabilise him as he laid just metres from his family’s council flat in Kariba Court.
According to residents, this follows widespread shootings between the Dollar Kidz and Mongrels gang as skollies run through Kariba Court to shoot on either side of the block.
INJURED: Faiek Marinus, 31
Mom Mariam, 71, says Faiek had left home to go to his friend’s house and minutes later she heard the gunshots.
“He was inside and then he went to his friend here in the court quickly. I heard the shooting start after 9pm and then someone came running up to tell me.
“He was shot once in his back and they stabilised him and took him to hospital. He was just in the wrong place because he is not a gangster and lives with me and helps look after me.”
She says due to the lockdown she was unable to see him at the hospital but was waiting for feedback on his condition yesterday.
