A Ravensmead family is battling to accept the news of their son’s death after he was gunned down around the corner from his home on Wednesday.
Denzil Skippers, 29, who was well-known for helping any and every one out in the area was gunned down after 8pm. He died on the scene.

His devastated father, Jan Skippers, 69, says someone came running to their home shouting that Denzil had just been shot.
“When we got to the scene, he had already passed on. I don’t know how many times he was shot but there were four [bullet] casings on the floor.
“Everyone is still struggling to come to terms with his death. It was a great shock to the family. He wasn’t a gangster or anything,” Jan explains.

Denzil had no children and was unmarried. He was the second youngest of five children.
“He was one of very few words, but he was a strong person. He was always at home if he wasn’t helping someone or going to the shop for someone,” Jan adds.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed a case of murder is being investigated.
“Please be advised that a case of murder has been opened for investigation after a 29-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded Wednesday night at about 8.50pm in Stroebel Street, Ravensmead," Rwexana says.
“According to information, police attended to the scene and upon their arrival, they found the victim on the street with multiple gunshot wounds to his body."
No arrests have been made.
