A homeless couple has found their home in each other’s arms and will be getting married tomorrow.
They met more than a year ago and last month they made an appointment at Home Affairs to tie the knot.
Amber September, 32, and Daniel Kepkey, 28, say they are ready to start their new life on the streets of Kuils River.
“People would send me to the shops to run their errands and that is when I saw Daniel.
“After I saw him, I used to go to the shop three or four times a day just to see him,” says the blushing bride-to-be.
“One day I asked him for his number and address, at the time we were both living with our families in Bishop Lavis.”
Daniel tells the Daily Voice that when he found Amber he decided to “man up”: “We first went to my father’s house and then we found a spot here in Kuils River and put up a makeshift home. We have been living on the street, skarreling for money.
“I know I may not have enough but I have all the love for Amber and I want a home for us so we can start a family.”
Community worker Dawn Roode is hosting their reception.
“I run a feeding scheme and I see them everyday and when they said they are getting married I was excited and asked members of my church to help out and they have helped a lot. The only thing they don’t have is cake for the reception,” says Dawn.
“And if there is anyone who can help them with a place to stay that would be really nice.”
She says the wedding reception will be them handing out food to the needy: “We are expecting 150 guests who are all homeless.”
