These moms from Wesbank have been feeding the needy in their community for the last two years.
Florina Visagie, 42, says they decided to start a soup kitchen after seeing the desperate need in Wesbank.
“A lot of people are unemployed in our community and that is the reason we decided to cook for the poor so they do not get hungry,” she says.
She says they feed people from the area twice a week, while ministering: “We call the soup kitchen ‘Word and Bread Ministry’ because we also teach the children the word of God.”
Visagie says the soup kitchen is not in one place as they move around to different streets in the area and feed those in need.
She says their vision is to feed as many people as possible in the future but since the money is coming from their own pockets it is hard to keep up with the growing need.
“We feed between 50 and 100 people each day, that is what we can afford for now but we would love to get help so we can feed more people,” she says.
She also told the Daily Voice that they are also looking to collect clothes for children, especially winter wear.
“We would be grateful to anyone who would help us achieve what we want to achieve because there is a great need for what we do for our community,” she says.
