Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed that thieves had broken down locked doors and stole computers containing the supply chain, human resources and finance documents.
Matakata condemned the incident and assured that a crack team would oversee the investigation.
“Intensive investigations are underway following the break-in at certain offices of the Hawks’ Head Office buildings in Silverton, Pretoria,” Mulaudzi said.
“Investigators are currently working on the scene and more information will be communicated in due course.”
Mulaudzi added that no case dockets had gone missing.
The break-in was discovered yesterday morning.
The stolen information information was backed up, but he said it was “critical” they retrieve the stolen information as it contained the identities and financial information of Hawks investigators.
“It’s wrong, it’s unacceptable. We do not know what these people will do with the information,” said Mulaudzi.
