A Ravensmead father who allegedly tried to rape his teenage daughter has been sent to the mang after residents came to the aid of the girl.
The 44-year-old man, who may not be named to protect the victim, made his first appearance at the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and proceedings were attended by angry Eureka Estate residents.
A 56-year-old woman, who asked not to be named, says residents were shocked to see the 16-year-old girl “running naked” across 40th Street on Monday morning, begging for help.
“The girl is 16 and it is her biological father,” says the woman.
“She lives alone with him after her mother died.
“On Monday we saw her running across the road and she was kaal and only had a pink gown on and nothing else.
“She ran to the home of another girl who goes to school with her and when that girl’s mother asked what is going on, she started begging for help, saying her father wanted to rape her.”
The teen revealed that her father had been sexually abusing her for some time and she escaped that morning.
“On Monday he told her to go bathe and wait for him on the bed, but he went to pee and she got a chance to run out,” the woman explains.
“She said that he raped her before and was very controlling over her.
“She explained that it started one day when she came home late from school and he was kwaad.
“He put his fingers inside her vagina and said he wanted to see if she was having sex.
“Then he told her he will have her because he was the man working for her.
“She also showed how he hit her on her legs and vagina with a belt.”
Neighbours took the traumatised girl to the police station where a case was registered, and the next day cops arrived to arrest the father.
“She was taken to her ouma in Eerste River,” adds the woman.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk confirms the arrest and says: “This office can confirm that a sexual assault case was registered at Ravensmead SAPS for investigation.
“The victim is 16-years-old.
“The arrested suspect [appeared] in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court [yesterday]”.
The matter was postponed until Monday for a bail application.
