Fears that a serial cat killer is on the loose in Manenberg have spread after a second cat was found mutilated in as many weeks.
The first horrific discovery was made by resident Abdul-Karriem Adams, 50, on Thursday morning, when he says he got a skrik to find the cat had been slit open along its belly.
Adams found the cat in the front yard of his home in Dwyka Street.
“The cat had been sliced open and left to die like that. It was a horrible thing to see and I asked on our community chat if the cat belongs to anyone, but it appears it was a stray cat.”
“I can’t believe someone is so evil to do something like this. We buried it in our yard but we heard later that people are talking about this happening to more cats in the area and this is very worrying to me.”
On Tuesday another cat was found near Silverstream Primary School with its guts ripped out.
“Its stomach was sliced open just like the first one and the guts were pulled out,” says Adams.
Jaque le Roux of the Animal Welfare Society of SA (AWS) analysed the pictures and says it appears the first cat may have been beaten as its bones and pelvis were broken.
“The second cat was killed in a similar manner and by the picture you can see that someone must have deliberately ripped it (intestines) out and placed it like that either when the cat was dead or still alive.”
Anyone with information is asked to call AWS on 021 692 2626 or the emergency number on 082 601 1761.
